In 2000, Matt and Courtney took their first trip to Costa Rica to celebrate their honeymoon. For the past two decades, they have returned many times to this magical place, each time learning more about the plants, the animals, and the culture of one of the most bio-diverse countries on our planet. With each visit, they have always returned back to their Southern California home, where they are artists and educators, renewed and inspired. When their son Jackson was one year old, they trekked through lush jungles with him in a Kelty baby backpack harness. He is now a teenager, with multiple SCUBA certifications, who looks forward to exploring the rainforests and the ocean with each return.

In 2021 (on their 21st anniversary), the couple purchased the two jungle casitas which are now “UP! HOUSE Costa Rica.” They have partnered with Utopia Caribe for concierge and property management services. The Utopia Caribe team - Zinnia, Giuliana, and Guillermo - are excellent co-hosts and managers for UP! HOUSE Costa Rica. Their attention and dedication to our guests makes your stay at UP!
